At this writing still a little unclear about this. In d6 there was a big project which was the "official" e-commerce package distinct from ubercart. Ubercart, under that name was still in 7.2 after recent upgrade so still looking into this.
Learned relation of d6 eCommerce / d7 / UC earlier this year (2011), Will summarize here later, actually moved to community edition of Magento for this function.

E Commerce and other Integrations and Customizations

You may want to have a package such as Magento, osCommerce, etc. integrated into your app. This can be done and in such a manner that visitors to your site will see it as seamless. However the integration of these packages will be superficial and this will be apparent to you in backend. VirtueMart is free but requires Joomla/Mambo. Volusion is not open source software but rather a priced service like PayPal, Amazon, etc.

We are developing an advanced integrative framework but it is not applicable to commercial contract work at this time so the integration performed here is simply to make the front end apply correct transactions to the backed systems. In that project we currently use SQL Ledger as the ERP/Chart of Account core but mean that function as all others to be generic and replacable if need be.

The Drupal 6 osCommerce module

This module was removed from the d.o repo due to a security concern which I have fixed in the version served from my domains. Ubercart is the default in C-Liu although either or both can be used.

Ubercart in d7

Cliu 0.2

In any case, Cliu first builds integrate the free version of Magento, and that is the default e-commerce for it at this writing.
