Here is the obligatory story from the stone age of computing. The first VCS I worked with was en:Panvalet, which was the main one on IBM mainframes, and that use was in 1979 at a service bureau I went to to buy some time to finish a project for a college course. Between that time and the current complete dominance of git, I used most of the others, the big names and the some of the lessers like darcs, which was a dog.
I've had contact with the developers of two systems in this area, the developer of ISPF a related IBM Mainframe system but not VCS per se, when I worked in IBM FSD, and a developer of the CANDE MCS thru interaction at enwiki about a dozen ya.

Old Client Repos
The ATV5, NSMLS, SFTD, and other client repos are present in the current server at the /private/ path but the unix accounts by which they were accessed don't exist. Msg me if you need them restored. Root (talk) 03:40, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
- These are still in the old git repos but other than DRDE weren't migrated to forgejo. Not lost at this point but not going to be maintained other than as files in archives. Root (talk) 12:26, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
Changed access
URI to access must now explicitly be specified as a port (which is privately communicated) must be specified:
